CASE Notice to Former Fee Payers for 2018

CASE Notice to Former Fee Payers for 2018

December 14, 2018

Re: Notice to Former Fee Payers for 2018 and June 2017 – June 2018 Auditor’s Report

Dear Colleague:

The Notice to former Fee Payers and the report from an independent auditor, which provides detailed information on the expenditure of dues and fair-share fees paid to CASE, are available online to all employees in Bargaining Unit 2 who paid mandated fair-share fees because they are not Voting Members of CASE. (See, Cal. Gov’t Code § 3513(k).) As part of CASE’s modernization project, we are not sending printed copies to former Mandated Fee Payers unless they request one. You can review the documents by clicking the links below.

CASE and the State of California will start the bargaining process within the next few months and I want to take this opportunity to ask you to consider becoming a Voting Member of CASE. While it is understandable to be frustrated by unjustifiably low salaries and attacks on hard-earned benefits, it makes little sense to deny Unit 2 members the benefit of your voice on these issues. CASE membership entitles you to vote in CASE elections and decide who will be entrusted with advocating for your wages, benefits, and working conditions. Also, Mandated Fee Payers are subject to the terms and conditions of Unit 2 contracts but only Voting Members of CASE can vote to ratify or reject a proposed contract.

Beyond the importance of securing voting rights, being a member of CASE entitles you to participate in CASE group benefit programs including long term disability insurance, life insurance, and many other discounts. State employees are currently under attack on many fronts and I hope you give serious consideration to joining the overwhelming majority of your colleagues who enjoy the rights and benefits of being a Voting Member of CASE.

Please weigh this cost in the context of ensuring your ability to vote on matters directly affecting your professional and financial future as a legal professional in Bargaining Unit 2. A membership application is attached and can be mailed or faxed to the CASE office. If you need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the CASE office at info@calattorneys.org or 1-800-699-6533.

Cordially,

Peter Flores, Jr.

President
