CASE BOARD OF DIRECTORS UPDATE

RTO is Coming for Natural Resources Employees. One of the state’s biggest agencies recently sent an all-hands email to its 19,000 employees announcing they must return to their offices or work in the field two days per week. Supervisors and managers will start the hybrid schedule by May 20. All other employees will return by June 3. 

The CNRA entities affected by the RTO mandate include:

  • Office of the SecretaryDepartment of Forestry & Fire Protection
  • Department of Parks & Recreation
  • California Energy Commission
  • Department of Fish & Wildlife
  • Department of Water Resources
  • Department of Conservation
  • California Conservation Corps

CASE continues to receive notices from Departments regarding revised in-office requirements. Notices are shared with members in affected departments via email. Your feedback on the impact of return-to-office mandates is invaluable in helping CASE prepare to meet and confer with departments and agencies and preparing grievances and for arbitration as necessary. CALPERS CORNER

Your CalPERS pension and health care benefits are among the most valuable benefits you receive in compensation for your public service on behalf of California. Understanding your CalPERS benefits is vital, no matter how far along you are in your career. To help, CalPERS provides free monthly education videos that focus on specific topics of interest. Upcoming online sessions include Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) (May 1) and Power of Attorney (June 12). Each online session starts at 11:00 a.m. They generally run for 20 minutes.

CalPERS is also holding a virtual CalPERS Benefits Education Event (CBEE) on April 10 and 11, with five informative classes. For additional details, please visit the CalPERS website by clicking here.

Remember to Use Your PDDs. CASE Members are credited with Professional Development Days each July 1, but unlike your vacation or annual leave, PDDs don’t roll over. As we enter the last quarter of the fiscal year, remember to use your PDDs before they expire on June 30!2nd Annual CASE Public Service Scholars Award. Applications are open for the 2nd Annual CASE Public Service Scholars Award. CASE Members and their dependents pursuing higher education are invited to apply between now and May 1. The award honors applicants who are currently in a career, or plan to pursue a career, in government or another form of service supporting the common good, or applicants who can demonstrate meaningful commitment to serving others by participation in service-oriented academic pursuits, volunteer, or community service.
