CASE BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ UPDATE

Communications Committee Meets. The CASE Communications Committee met Friday to discuss some exciting initiatives that will launch in the coming weeks. Among them: a redesigned website, a robust social media program, quick responses to member inquiries, and developing a strong public voice in the media (such as last week’s telework story in The Sacramento Bee). Stay tuned for more developments.

BETTER KNOW YOUR MOU

Cashing Out Leave Balances. Have you accumulated a sizable leave balance thanks to a lack of travel or vacation opportunities over the past two years? Keep an eye out for information from your department in the coming weeks regarding options on cashing out leave. Article 9.23 permits Unit 2 employees to cash out up to 160 hours of accumulated Vacation or Annual leave, if the department has funding to do so. On or before May 1, you can expect information from your department about whether funds are available to offer cash-out options to employees, and how many hours are available. The process for requesting a cash-out can vary by department, so watch for instructions. In departments where a cash-out is offered, payments can be expected in June. Questions? Contact CASE.

CALPERS CORNER

The CalPERS COLA. One of the great benefits of your state pension is CalPERS’ Cost-of-Living-Adjustment, which is designed to ensure the value of your money in retirement keeps up with inflation. Check out this one-minute video, which explains when pensioners receive their first COLA and factors that set the annual rate.
