April 6, 2022 CASE Files

Welcome to this week’s CASE Files, part of our commitment to keep you up-to-date on our work to increase your salary, improve and protect your benefits, and to aggressively represent your interests in every forum where your employment and professional interests are at stake.

Communications Committee Meets. The CASE Communications Committee met Friday to discuss some exciting initiatives that will launch in the coming weeks. Among them: a redesigned website, a robust social media program, quick responses to member inquiries, and developing a strong public voice in the media (such as last week’s telework story in The Sacramento Bee). Stay tuned for more developments.

Cashing Out Leave Balances. Have you accumulated a sizable leave balance thanks to a lack of travel or vacation opportunities over the past two years? Keep an eye out for information from your department in the coming weeks regarding options on cashing out leave. Article 9.23 permits Unit 2 employees to cash out up to 160 hours of accumulated Vacation or Annual leave, if the department has funding to do so. On or before May 1, you can expect information from your department about whether funds are available to offer cash-out options to employees, and how many hours are available. The process for requesting a cash-out can vary by department, so watch for instructions. In departments where a cash-out is offered, payments can be expected in June. Questions? Contact CASE.

The CalPERS COLA. One of the great benefits of your state pension is CalPERS’ Cost-of-Living-Adjustment, which is designed to ensure the value of your money in retirement keeps up with inflation. Check out this one-minute video, which explains when pensioners receive their first COLA and factors that set the annual rate.

Travel Assistance from The Standard. Planning spring break or summer travel? CASE Voting Members have access to Travel Assistance from The Standard providing a variety of benefits when you travel more than 100 miles from home or internationally. Benefits include emergency ticket, credit card, and passport replacement; emergency evacuation; connection to medical providers and interpreter services, and logistical arrangements for ground transportation, housing or evacuation in the event of natural disaster or other emergency. Visit the CASE website for more information.

For now, CASE Files will continue to be delivered weekly to all Unit 2 employees, but our Bargaining Updates are delivered only to Members. Stay informed on the important decisions that will impact your salary and benefits by joining CASE today. Apply here.
