CASE Election Information

CASE will be conducting its annual election for the Board of Directors this fall.  Four (4) Officer and four (4) “odd-year” director-at-large positions will be up for election.  Each of the positions is for a full two-year term.

If you are considering becoming a candidate for a position with the CASE Board of Directors this fall, please note the following election schedule and information about the nomination process:

August 25, 2017:           Original nomination petitions due at the CASE Office by 5:00 p.m. (CASE Bylaws, Article III, section 3.14(a) (ii).) No facsimile or electronic copies will be accepted. Nomination petitions must have at least five (5) valid signatures from active CASE Voting Members. (CASE Bylaws, Article III, section 3.14(b).)  No exceptions to this rule will be made. It is the responsibility of each candidate to contact the CASE office to verify the validity of signatures. Signatures of non-voting Mandated Fee Payers of Bargaining Unit 2 will not be accepted.

August 31, 2017:            Last day for any candidate to withdraw from the election and not have his or her name appear on the ballot.

September 1, 2017:       The CASE Elections Oversight Committee shall meet, review the nominating petitions, and publish on the CASE website a certified list of eligible candidates no later than 5:00 p.m.  (CASE Bylaws, Article III, section 3.14(b).)

September 15, 2017:     Optional candidate statements due at CASE Office by 5:00 p.m.  Electronic or facsimile copies of candidate statements are acceptable.

September 19, 2017:     Last day for Mandated Fee Payers of Bargaining Unit 2 to become CASE Voting Members with voting privileges in the 2017 election. (Bylaws, Article III, section 3.15.) The membership roll, for purposes of verifying eligibility of CASE members to vote in the election, shall be fixed at this point. Members who retire, promote to supervisory status, or otherwise leave Bargaining Unit 2 will be deemed ineligible to participate in the election and shall be removed from the membership roll for purposes of this election.

September 29, 2017:     Ballots and optional candidate statements emailed to all CASE Voting Members.  Any requests for a replacement ballot link shall be directed to the CASE office.

November 3, 2017:        Voting period shall end at 5:00 p.m. and results will be published via email and on the CASE website.

Nomination petitions may be submitted anytime between now and the deadline of Friday, August 25, 2017.  To become a candidate for any open position, you must submit a nomination petition to the CASE office, declaring your interest along with the signatures of five (5) active, dues-paying CASE Voting Members in good standing in support of your candidacy.  Under no circumstances will nomination petitions be accepted by facsimile or electronic transmission.

Your nomination petition must include your name, department, classification, home and work addresses, phone numbers, e-mail address, and your signature.  Your nomination petition must identify the office for which you are seeking election so that it is clear to the five (5) active CASE Voting Members who support your nomination the office you are seeking.  Each person signing your nomination petition must provide his or her name, department, classification, work address, phone number, e-mail address, and signature.

Election forms and petitions are available from the CASE office, or on the CASE website (www.calattorneys.org).   Only active, rank-and-file full Voting Members of CASE in good standing are eligible to vote or run for elected office.  Retired annuitants, confidential employees, managers, and supervisors may not run for, or hold office.  Additionally, Mandated Fee Payers of Bargaining Unit 2 may not run for or hold office.  If you are unsure of your membership status, please contact the CASE office for verification.

Candidates may submit a campaign statement to CASE, which will be emailed along with ballots to all CASE Voting Members.  The deadline for submitting this optional statement is Friday, September 15, 2017.  Although limited to one side of a single 8 ½ x 11 inch sheet of paper, there is no word limit, so you may design the statement as you prefer.  The CASE Elections Oversight Committee shall review all campaign statements to ensure compliance with Corporations Code section 7525, and Article III, section 3.14(c) of the CASE Bylaws.

CASE will be conducting the elections via electronic voting.  If you are a Voting Member you will receive a ballot via email.  Please make sure CASE has your correct email address on file so you may vote.

If you have any questions about the election, please contact the CASE office at (800) 699-6533 or by e-mail at elections@calattorneys.org.

As always, your support of CASE and your colleagues in Bargaining Unit 2 is greatly appreciated.
