CASE Files Special Edition May Revise 05.14.25

Dear CASE Members:

Today, Governor Gavin Newsom released his May revision to the budget, which is an updated version of the Governor’s proposed 2025-26 state budget.

In his budget revision, the governor outlined a proposal that proposes to close the projected budget shortfall, and employee compensation must be part of the solution.  Specifically, the proposal states that while bargaining negotiations for all state bargaining units will commence or continue, if the state cannot reach an agreement with each bargaining unit, “the Administration will include a budget provision to impose reductions.”

CASE is disappointed that the Governor has chosen to undermine the collective bargaining process with this proposal. We will continue to fight for our members, both inside and outside the bargaining process, to ensure all of us receive the pay and benefits we deserve.

CASE members are necessary to defend and advance the governor’s priorities and we are already paid far less than our public sector counterparts. Today’s proposal is particularly concerning and many CASE members are being forced back to work against their will.

While today’s announcement is disappointing, our fight is just beginning. We won’t stop fighting for you.
