Making Plans for 2023? State Holiday Schedule Now Available. Already making plans for your vacation and holiday time next year? The State has issued the 2023 State Holiday schedule:

In addition to these holidays, CASE members also receive one personal holiday per fiscal year. Effective January 1, 2023, the Governor proclaimed 4 new holidays, one of which may be taken in lieu of receiving a personal holiday: Sunday, January 22, Lunar New Year; Monday, April 24-Genocide Remembrance Day; Monday, June 19-Juneteenth; Friday, September 22-Native American Day.

And don’t forget about your 2 Professional Development Days which renew each year on July 1 and must be used (or lost) by June 30 each year. CASE continues to advocate for an increase in Professional Development Days for S02 and M02 employees to align with what is provided to rank-and-file employees under the Unit 2 MOU.

News Headlines. Recent media reports of interest to Unit 2 legal professionals:

CALPERS CORNER
Yvonne Walker has won the runoff election for the retired-member seat on the CalPERS Board of Administration, fund officials announced last week. Walker received 64,553 votes, which represents 56.90% of the votes cast during the voting period of November 4 through December 5, 2022. Her opponent, Randall Cheek, received 48,900 votes, or 43.10%. Over 660,000 retired CalPERS members were eligible to vote in this election.

Walker, a legal secretary who retired from the Department of Justice, replaces Henry Jones, who resigned for health reasons in January 2022. Walker’s term begins immediately upon the election’s certification by the California Secretary of State next month and expires on January 15, 2028.
