CASE BOARD OF DIRECTORS UPDATE
NDI-Family Care Leave Update. We’re now just under four months from the start of the NDI-Family Care Leave program for CASE Members on July 1. As a quick reminder, this benefit – the first of its kind for any state employee union – provides 50% wage replacement (which can be supplemented up to 75% or 100% with leave credits) for up to 6 weeks to care for an ailing family member or for the birthing and non-birthing parent to bond with a newly arrived child (via birth, adoption, or foster care placement). This benefit is provided with no out-of-pocket costs to you.
To access the benefit, you must be enrolled in the Annual Leave program (instead of Vacation/Sick Leave). You can only change between Annual Leave and Vacation/Sick Leave every 24 months, so be mindful when timing your changes.
If you’ll be welcoming a new member of the family before July 1, the benefit can be accessed any time during the child’s first year of life (or arrival to your home) after July 1.
CASE has requested, and CalHR is working on, an FAQ and guidance for departments to clarify the mechanics of the program. We anticipate this being released to departments in late spring.
