CASE’s Sponsored Legislation. CASE’s sponsored legislation, SB 605, which would seek to ensure competitive compensation for state attorneys and administrative law judges in State Bargaining Unit 2 by aligning their salaries with those of public sector attorneys across California, is still awaiting a hearing in the Senate Appropriations Committee. In the meantime, however, CASE is pleased to share that Attorney General Rob Bonta has offered his support for the bill in a letter to the bill’s author, which you can read here.
We will continue to keep you all updated as any additional information becomes available about SB 605’s status.
Open Enrollment – Dependent Care Reimbursement Account. In response to Executive Order N-22-25, regarding minimum in-person work days, CalHR is holding a Special Open Enrollment (OE) period for the FlexElect Dependent Care Reimbursement Account (DCRA) Program. This Special OE will be held from May 1 – 30, 2025. The DRCA allows employees to set aside money to pay for qualifying dependent care expenses, such as childcare, elder care and care for a disabled dependent. DCRA contributions are not taxable, which can lower taxable income. Eligible state employees may enroll in the program or increase their current DCRA contribution amount. Employees currently enrolled in the program may not cancel their enrollment or reduce their current contribution during this Special OE period unless they have a qualifying permitting event. Please contact your personnel office for more information.

REMINDERS:
Professional Development Days – Use ‘Em or Lose ‘Em. CASE Members receive professional development days (PDD) each year. Unlike other types of leave that can rollover from year to year, your PDDs expire each fiscal year on June 30. You can check to see how much PDD time you have on the books by referring to the Leave Balances box in your CalConnect Account. Unlike other leave balances which get lower with use, the “TRNG/DEV” line item that reflects PDD use counts up with usage. If the number in the far-right box is less than 40, then you have PDD time to use.
