2023 CASE Elections will be held from October 13 to November 3, 2023. Election results will be available after the close of balloting and certification.

2023 Election Information

CASE Election.

Four (4) Officer and five (5) Director-at-Large positions are up for election this fall. Here’s what you should know:

 

The Jobs

 

Position Description
CASE Director
(2-year term)
Per Article IV of the CASE Bylaws and the California Corporations Code, CASE Directors have a fiduciary responsibility to act in the best interest of CASE Members. They set the CASE budget, direct Staff work, and are responsible for the conduct of all CASE Business.
CASE President
(2-year term)
Per Article VI, Section 7, the CASE President is the Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation, subject to control of the Board of Directors. The President exercises general supervision, direction, and control of CASE activities, presides over Board Meetings, chairs the Bargaining Committee, and is ex-officio member of all other standing committees.
CASE Vice President
(2-year term)
Per Article VI, Section 8, the CASE Vice President performs all duties of the President in the President’s absence.
CASE Secretary
(2-year term)
Per Article VI, Section 9, the Secretary will make certain that all notices for Board Meetings are provided the membership, make certain that minutes have been taken and approved for each Board Meetings and is Chair the Communications Committee.
CASE Treasurer
(2-year term)
Per Article VI, Section 10, the Treasurer is the Chief Financial Officer keeps and maintains the accounts of the properties and business transactions of the corporation. The Treasurer is the Chair the Budget, Investment and Finance Committee. The Treasurer deposits all moneys and other valuables in the name and to the credit of the corporation with depositories designated by the Board of Director and when requested, provides an account of all transactions and of the financial condition of the corporation.
Time Commitment CASE Directors and Officers meet for quarterly Board Meetings, monthly or biweekly committee meetings, and are expected to remain in regular communication with their fellow Board members and CASE staff to conduct the business of CASE.

2023 Election Calendar
Date Description
August 29, 2023

Last day to become a CASE member in order to be eligible to vote in the 2023 election.

August 31, 2023 Nomination petitions must be received by 5:00pm  See below for details. (CASE Bylaws, Article III, section 3.14(a).)
September 1, 2023 Elections Committee to meet, review nominating petitions, publish certified list of eligible candidates no later than 5:00pm. (CASE Bylaws, Article III, section 3.14(b).).
September 7, 2023 Last day for any candidate to withdraw from the election and not have their name appear on the ballot.
September 29, 2023 Optional candidate statements due by 5:00pm via this portal
October 13, 2023 Ballots and optional candidate statements emailed to all CASE Members. Any requests for a replacement ballot link shall be directed to CASE.
November 3, 2023 Voting period shall end at 5:00 pm and results will be published via email and on the CASE website shortly after the close of balloting.
November 17, 2023 CASE Quarterly Board Meeting and Swearing-In of 2023 Elected Officers and Directors.
2023 Candidate Nomination Information

Download a Nominating Petition here. Complete the Petition and collect signatures of fellow CASE Members. Every field on the form must be completed. Only complete petitions may be accepted.

Only CASE Members are eligible to run for CASE office.

Return your completed nomination petition via the online portal no later than 5:00pm on August 31.

Nomination petitions must have at least five (5) valid signatures from active CASE voting members. (CASE Bylaws, Article III, section 3.14(b). No exceptions to this rule will be made. Due to continuing telework, electronic signatures are permitted on nominating forms.)

It is the responsibility of each candidate to contact the CASE office to verify the validity of signatures. If a candidate is running for both an Officer and Director-at-Large position, separate nominating petitions must be submitted for each office.

Each person signing your nomination petition must provide their name, department, classification, work address, phone number, e-mail address, and signature.

Non-members, retired members, confidential employees, managers, and supervisors may not run for, or hold office.

Candidates may submit a candidate statement to CASE, which will be posted on the CASE website and emailed along with ballots to all CASE Members. The deadline for submitting this optional candidate statement is Friday, September 29, 2023.

  • Statements are limited to one-side of a standard 8 ½ x 11-inch sheet of paper.

  • There is no word limit and candidates may design the statement as they wish subject to compliance with law and CASE bylaws.

  • The CASE Elections Committee shall review all campaign statements to ensure compliance with Corporations Code section 7525, and Article III, section 3.14(c) of the CASE Bylaws.

2023 Voting

Only CASE Members who joined by the August 29 deadline may vote in the 2023 CASE Board of Directors Election.

 

When is the Election?

Balloting will open on Friday, October 13 at 8:00am and conclude on Friday, November 3 at 5:00pm.

When the polls open, CASE Members will receive an email from BallotPoint Election Services (email address: notice@ballotpoint[dot]com)

 

Where Will My Ballot Be Sent?

Emails will be sent to your preferred address on file. If you have a personal and work email on file with CASE, the ballot will most likely be sent to your personal email address, however, we recommend checking both work and personal inboxes and checking your spam folder before requesting a new ballot be sent to you.

 

What If I Need a Replacement Ballot?

Replacement ballot requests should be sent from the email on file with CASE to orion@ballotpoint.com with the subject line: VOTE. You can request from both your personal and work email if one comes up as not-found with the ballotpoint system. If you are still unable to access your ballot, please contact CASE at case@calattorneys.org.

Pursuant to Article III, section 3.14 of the CASE Bylaws, the electronic ballots cast in the 2023 general election for the CASE Board of Directors have been submitted, verified, and tallied by non-members who are disinterested in the outcome of the election. 

 

A total of 767 ballots were cast by CASE members.  The following Officers and Directors-at-Large have been elected the CASE Board of Directors:
