Local Representative Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be the Welcome Wagon
    Welcome new employees to state service or existing state employees to your department and worksite. Share with them the benefits of CASE Membership – what you get and what you miss if you don’t join.

  • Recruitment Events? All-hand meetings? New Employee Orientations?
    Let CASE Staff know of in-person (and virtual) events in which we might participate to reach members and future members.

  • Worksite Eyes & Ears
    Keep staff and the Board informed of any situations in your workplace.

  • Refer Issues to Staff
    Do not represent colleagues in disciplinary actions or other types of meetings, refer them to staff for expert assistance with legal and labor issues.

  • Report in Often
    Keep staff and the Board informed of any situations in your workplace.

  • Build Member Knowledge
    Be a resource to your colleagues on the MOU and items of interest to  build member knowledge of their rights and of the benefits of CASE Membership.

  • Be the Finder
    Be familiar with the CASE, CalHR, and other websites of interest to point members in the right direction.

  • Be the Connector
    Connect CASE members with CASE staff as needed.

  • The Local Voice
    Share updates with members in your workplace on issues ranging from Bargaining to new state employee policies.

  • Know the basics
    Be familiar with the MOU so you can connect members with basic information. Connect them with staff for more complicated inquiries.

  • CASE Staff stand ready to take the hand-off of individual representation matters and to answer more in-depth questions related to salary, benefits, and state employee rights. 

  • Printed brochures, membership applications, welcome packets, and swag are available upon request. 

  • Monthly reports of new employees in your department.

  • Monthly Local Rep Meetings.
